Bagpipe Tuner App for Highland Bagpipes accurately detects your pipe chanter notes, drones and displays the note, frequency and pitch position. Detection is via the inbuilt microphone, or in noisy environments an external microphone like the HBT clip mic can be attached.
Bagpipe Tuner features both digital and analog style meters, waveform input monitor and auto gain limiter. Simply press the Learn button and start tuning, or turn horizontal to access a larger meter display.
Using a Bagpipe Tuner can really make tuning less stressful, listening more pleasant and playing more enjoyable. You can quickly check your pipes at anytime to maintain good tone– before a gig, practising or competition. And, non-pipers can easily use it to help out with tuning.

Bagpipe Tuner app good for
This app, although expensive for an iPhone application, allows anyone to tune their pipes without having to spend a fortune on a tuner. Yes, there are other free tuning apps for the iPhone, but this one makes it easier to tune the band quickly. I would highly recommend it for bands or individuals.
Below was part of my old review. That was for the first version. There have been significant improvements to this app and would recommend buying it. The main one addresses my comment below
"My only concern is the app doesnt necessarily tell you if an individual note is sharp or flat. Can you incorporate some kind of interface tool (like a flat or sharp sign) to show when a note is out of tune."
Not only has the problem been addressed but I would say they knocked it out of the park.
I really like this app. It works well, I use it ll the time for solo gigs. Extremely easy to use!
Just tuned-up in a painless instant with BT. I was close to begin with, but a nice fine-tuner. Easy interface, easy to understand and easy to use. A nice wee app!
(Looking forward to trying it out on Burns Night when I try to tune 2 sets of pipes with different chanters.)
When combined with the bluetooth clip microphone this tuner makes tuning the drones really easy and accurate. I constantly switch between my band and solo chanters, and this makes that painless.

I saw a rumor of this online and have been watching the app store to see when this was going to be released.
I find this app works better than the stand-alone Bagpipe Tuners available currently.
The only things I recommend for improvement:
1. Allow the setting of the pitch manually from the app itself; currently you have to go to the Setting app to manually set the pitch.
2. I would prefer if the top analog-style meter re-centered itself on the set pitch rather than 466Hz. I find myself not using this meter, as it makes everything look sharp, since most of my chanters are tuning above 466Hz.
But these are nits. The app works exactly as stated and I even without the above features, I give this 5-stars.
The best and only dedicated Bagpipe Tuner in the store. Well worth the purchase price, it provides positive feed back on tuning each drone and chanter. It really takes the guess work out of tuning when compared other non bagpipe dedicated tuners, which I have many of.
SUGGESTIONS - The app needs a screen lock button to prevent accidental exits from the app when handling the iPhone, i.e.: raising phone to top of drones.
Also, when pressing the learn button, the font in the help window is hard to read because it is script and in a small font size. I also would prefer to see the "learn" button renamed to "calibrate" and also offer a reset option instead. But thats my preferences.
Great little tuner. Far superior to any Korg. Gives the Saul a run for its money but doesnt surpass it. The Saul gets the tuning closer and is more sensitive. Definitely want the Saul fir competitions. Still for tuning the band for a parade this app is a welcome aide. Well worth the cost. Highly recommended!
This app instantly replaced the Korg Ive been using. It works exactly the way it should so you can tune each note on your chanter.
